I spent a few days in four different Rwandan prisons getting the story on their use of biogas in the prisons. Rwanda uses 80 percent biogas tp run their stoves and self maintains the biogas program from within the prisons. I met many prisoner who had been in prison since post 1994 genocide. When I asked what they had done to still be in prison I was told that only those who had committed especially horrendous crimes would still be in prison. I was struck by the every day and often gentle demeanor of the prisoners I met. I also was not free to shoot their faces freely while in the prisons, so this is the few photos I managed to leave the prisons with.
